Difference between gui and cli windows

GUI is more user-friendly than CLI and can be used by beginners as well as experienced professionals. Multitasking may or may not be involved in the command-line interface. On the other hand, In GUI, one can do multitasking with ease. For example- MS word, chrome has multitasking ability to perform tasks. Command Line Interface is best for handling complex tasks.

One can handle the complex task by writing a few commands, while GUI requires some steps to follow to work. Only the keyboard and system are used while interacting; on the other hand, GUI has extra resources to interact with the user. It required more time to perform tasks. On the other hand, CLI has better performance. One can script the series of instructions to carry out the task, while GUI does not provide this facility. Graphical User Interface connects with another computer remotely to gain access, while on the other hand connecting with CLI is quite difficult.

Professionals are required to get access to another electronic device. In Command Line Interface, the interface is consistent for all the time. Users of GUI interact with devices or software through clickable graphical icons. CLI is a text-based or console representation whereby users type commands into a terminal to navigate or operate devices or software. Users such as software developers, systems administrators, and others that require to perform more advanced tasks use CLI.

This article discusses GUI and CLI and compares the two in terms of ease of use, multitasking, remote access, scripting, speed, and control. A graphical user interface GUI is a visual representation of communication that makes it easy for users to interact with electronic devices.

GUI combines many graphical representations, including graphic icons such as menus, cursors, tabs, mouse, windows, and scroll bars. Communication between the user and the electronic device is performed by interacting with these graphical icons. This is different from the usual command-based or text-based communication associated with the command-line interface CLI , as we will find out later in this article. Graphical user interfaces have become a standard user-centered design when it comes to software application programming.

They provide users the capacity to interact and operate electronic devices, more so, computers. Apple Inc. Command-line interface CLI is a command-line program that relies on text inputs to perform operating system functions. CLI was the standard way of interacting with computing devices in the early days of computing. But this has changed since the invention of GUI, which is seen as a more user-friendly alternative. Still, system administrators and software developers use CLI to install software, access features missing in the graphical interface, and configure computers.

GUI is easier to learn and use. This is because of its user-friendly interface. Figure 2: Linux Command Line Interface. The user should have a good understanding to use the CLI. He should thoroughly know the correct syntax to issue effective commands. A GUI is a type of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators.

A CLI is an interface for the user to issue commands in the form of successive lines of text or command lines to perform the tasks. It is easy to use the GUI. It is not necessary to have a vast knowledge to operate the system using the GUI. Even a beginner can easily handle the tasks using the GUI.

On the other hand, CLI is complex. The user should have good knowledge of the commands. Misspelt commands are of no use. Users have to type command or train of command to perform a task.

It emphasizes over cognitive process as a primary task. CLI is appropriate for the costly computing where input precision is the priority. A GUI uses graphics to allow users to intercommunicate with the operating system or application. GUI provides windows, scrollbars, buttons, wizards, iconic images, other icons to facilitate users.

It is an easy-to-use interface for the novice users.
